“To remind ourselves of real beauty requires constant reassessment.”
Residence Rosenius is the creation of designer Håkan Rosenius, a labour of love centring on soft furnishings crafted around upcycled needlepoint tapestries - each a reframing of and homage to an exemplary iconic image.
Initially inspired by a framed needlepoint tapestry of The Last Supper he stumbled upon antique shopping in the Cotswolds, Rosenius was struck by the novel lens through which he viewed the artwork, and moved to push the boundaries of where and how such beautiful and inspirational imagery might be interpreted and appreciated anew.
Collecting pieces to fit his vision over the course of a year, Rosenius set about applying the themed works to striking individual pieces, expanding the eclectic but considered repertoire to floor cushions and ottomans to add to his original canvas - the centrepiece cushion.
Utilising fabric remnants from established makers including Colefax and Fowler, Nina Campbell and Zoffany, Rosenius has established and produced a truly original collection - each handcrafted to an artisanal standard, counterbalanced with a modern upcycling sensibility.
Vibrant colour palettes from Welsh blankets and unique quirks and details (such as those added by a remarkable tassel maker from Rosenius’ native Sweden) all conspire to define a range of extraordinary products that nod to their past while feeling unmistakably modern.
Themes including historic art, travel, exotic wildlife and flowers each add a sense of narrative and imagination to the respective pieces they adorn - a drama and a life beyond mere soft furnishings.
